This may seem like cheating, and my apologies if it is, however I thought a 'Discover' post would be the perfect way to share more information about the designs and products we create at RP.
As a little person, I was always that child that wanted to touch everything and anything; cushions, blankets...food - sorry Mum. The way something felt, seemed just as important to me, as how it looked; the softness of a chair, the grain in a wooden table, the layers in a painting. In a way, I guess this was me starting to decide what I wanted to be when I grew up, without even realising it.
Fast forward many years and following a degree in Interior Textile Design from Manchester School of Art and a variety of jobs along the way, I continued to develop my love and passion for surface patterns, textures and interior design. I created a platform to share interior inspirations, designs and simple tips for a minimalistic home. A space where I could not only share new projects, but also combine my skills from working in the industry, with my design knowledge and understanding. I want to allow honest design to be accessible to everybody - to create patterns which anyone can use, no matter the project, and release a range of products to help you create a simple home.
The patterns produced are designed to be adaptable; created in technical repeat, they can be scaled up or down, depending on the requirements. Each one is available for purchasing or licensing - further details can be pound on our Patterns page.
From initial sketches, drawing inspiration from the environment around us, they are developed digitally and evolve further through careful colour combinations (try saying that three times faster). It's always an exciting moment when we see the finished design reworked with another product, and how it has grown into something new.
The next step is utilising the designs and creating a range of interior products. Using a selection of the original repeat patterns produced, I am working on releasing a collection of hand screen printed art prints - it has always been a strong belief of mine to focus on maintaining traditional techniques and a hands-on approach in designing, in an ever developing world. Each print a statement on their own, but also able to perfectly compliment each other.
Maintaining a simplistic colour palette and minimalistic approach, the prints hone in on the individual shapes and structures of each pattern. Rather than giving an all-over design, each one is an abstract piece, allowing you to decide what the subject may be.
So there you go - a peek behind the scenes and the pattern design side to Redfern Prints. It's still early days and there's so much I'd love to achieve and share with you all, but it's slowly coming together. I can't wait to share the new products when they're ready. I thought a second post regarding those would be best, so keep an eye out in the Spring for more on that!
